چکیده

Introduction Mayotte Island, a French overseas department of around 374 km2 and 200 000 inhabitants is located in the North of Mozambique Channel in the Indian Ocean (Figure1). In response to the threat of the pandemic influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus emergence, a syndromic surveillance system has been implemented in order to monitor its spread and its impact on public health (1). This surveillance system which proved to be useful during the influenza pandemic, has been maintained in order to detect infection diseases outbreaks.

Early Detection of Dysentery Outbreaks by Cumulative Sum Method Based on National Surveillance System Data in 1393-1396

Background and Objectives: Correct and timely detection of the outbreaks of diseases with a short incubation period is of great importance in the health system. The aim of this study was to determine the detection of dysentery outbreaks using the cumulative sum method.   Methods: This time series study was conducted using the data of the National Surveillance System between 2014 and 2017. The...

A simulation study comparing aberration detection algorithms for syndromic surveillance

BACKGROUND The usefulness of syndromic surveillance for early outbreak detection depends in part on effective statistical aberration detection. However, few published studies have compared different detection algorithms on identical data. In the largest simulation study conducted to date, we compared the performance of six aberration detection algorithms on simulated outbreaks superimposed on a...

A Model for Controlling the Outbreak of Water and Foodborne Diseases after Natural Disasters

Background: After natural disasters the likelihood of outbreak of infectious diseases especially water and foodborne diseases, increases due to population displacement, increasing risk factors, environmental changes, changing living conditions and increasing vulnerability to pathogens. This research was conducted with the aim of designing a model for controlling the outbreak of water and foodbo...

Evaluating Detection of an Inhalational Anthrax Outbreak

Timely detection of an inhalational anthrax outbreak is critical for clinical and public health management. Syndromic surveillance has received considerable investment, but little is known about how it will perform relative to routine clinical case finding for detection of an inhalational anthrax outbreak. We conducted a simulation study to compare clinical case finding with syndromic surveilla...

Outbreak detection and evaluation of a school-based influenza-like-illness syndromic surveillance in Tianjin, China

School-based influenza-like-illness (ILI) syndromic surveillance can be an important part of influenza community surveillance by providing early warnings for outbreaks and leading to a fast response. From September 2012 to December 2014, syndromic surveillance of ILI was carried out in 4 county-level schools. The cumulative sum methods(CUSUM) was used to detect abnormal signals. A susceptible-e...
